Kalin Roman Igorevich - famous Ukrainian musician, singer, radio host and sound engineer. The leader of the hip hop group "Greenjolly". The author of the famous song "Bagato at once."
Biography
The future musician was born in April 1968 on the seventeenth in the small Ukrainian city of Ivano-Frankivsk. From an early age, he developed a craving for music, he studied at school rather mediocre, but musical talent was obvious. Parents decided to record it in a music school, and the accordion was chosen as the main instrument.
Despite the fact that music has become an integral part of Roman’s life, after graduating from school, he decided to continue his studies at the Institute of Oil and Gas. At that time, he did not have high hopes for his talent and intended to get a “real” profession. Upon graduation, Kalin joined the army. There his political officers spotted his talent and sent him to serve in the orchestra. After demobilization in 1988, he hit into entrepreneurial activity. He worked in a furniture store, and in the early nineties he occupied the most profitable niche of those years: he opened the first computer club in Ivano-Frankivsk.
Music career
By the mid-nineties, the craving for music took up, and Kalin opened a recording studio. In 1997, he and his friend Roma Kostyukov created the musical group "Grinjola". The group with an unusual sound began to perform at various events and music festivals, including “Melody” and “Perlini season”. The group not only gained popularity, but also won several respectable awards.
The year 2004 was eventful in Ukraine, and Kalin and his comrade became direct participants. They recorded the song “Bagato at once”, and this track instantly scattered across the country and became an unofficial anthem of the growing “Orange Revolution”. In 2005, the team was sent to perform at Eurovision from Ukraine. They had to perform their main hit, “It’s us all at once”, but the song was substantially redone for the contest, all political motives were removed, and some of the verses were translated into English.
Despite thorough preparation, staging, specially made costumes and choreography, the performance was a failure. The group took nineteenth place, it was the worst result of Ukraine for the entire existence of the contest.
In 2006, Roman Igorevich decided to go into politics and put forward his candidacy in the elections to the Ivano-Frankivsk City Council from the party "It's time!" Despite his popularity, he lost the election. After that, interest in the team began to fall rapidly and the group was on the verge of collapse. Today, Kalin is mainly engaged in production activities and solo performances, their collective “Grinjola” formally exists, but the public is not particularly interested in it.
