Roy was born in New Jersey in the fall of 1932. His father was German by nationality and his mother was Irish. The family did not live well, my father worked in a car repair shop, and my mother ran a household. In early childhood, Roy was sick a lot and suffered a severe form of rheumatism. To maintain his health, he began to actively engage in sports - he played baseball and was fond of boxing. In sports, he excelled and even performed at numerous competitions and the boxing championship in New Jersey.
Roy received his education at Maplewood High School, then went to Newark to go to university, and then went to Lancaster to study law. Parents dreamed of a worthy career as a child and were very pleased that the young man entered the law faculty.
As a student, Roy became interested in theater and began performing on the university stage, but he still did not think about devoting himself to art all his life.
Career start and movie roles
In the late 1950s, Scheider served for four years in the U.S. Army, in a unit based in Korea, as an air traffic controller. After demobilization, he again decided to try himself as an actor and went to work in a theater studio. After the play "Romeo and Juliet", shown at the local festival, where Roy got one of the roles, his work was highly appreciated by the audience and the director and Scheider was finally included in the troupe of the theater.
Scheider’s first film work was the role in the film “The Curse of the Living Dead, ” but real success came to him after the film “Klyut”, where he played a central role together with famous actors D.
