The criteria for visual impairment in which a conscript can expect to be exempted from military service are enshrined in the Disease Schedule. Thus, exemption from drafting will follow if myopia of more than 6 diopters or farsightedness of more than 8 diopters is detected.
The issue of exemption from military service due to the presence of poor vision is decided at a meeting of the draft commission. The degree of violation of the visual function of the conscript is determined in the process of passing a specialized medical specialist - optometrist. To make a decision on exemption, it is necessary to establish the category of validity “D” (not suitable) or “B” (limitedly suitable). In the process of examining and determining the fitness category, the medical specialist is guided by the criteria set forth in paragraphs 34, 35 of the Schedule of Diseases. The specified Schedule is approved by a special resolution of the Government of the Russian Federation, it is the main document in assessing the health status of draftees.
Exemption from the army with myopia and farsightedness
In the presence of myopia of any eye from six to twelve diopters, the category “B” is established for the conscript, as a result of which he is freed from the army. To establish the category "D", the presence of myopia of any eye in excess of twelve diopters is necessary. If the draftee wants to be exempted due to farsightedness, then during the medical examination the indicated dysfunction should be revealed in the amount of eight to twelve diopters. In this case, the limited validity of the conscript will be established and followed by release from service. To determine the category of “unfit” will require the detection of hyperopia of any eye more than twelve diopters.
