The Eurovision music contest has been held since 1956 and enjoys well-deserved popularity. It was after the performance on it that many performers gained worldwide fame. The winner is determined by the vote of viewers, while you can’t vote for your artist. Despite seemingly fair conditions, voting is still not impartial. As a rule, neighboring countries in good relations vote for each other, giving performers maximum points. That is how the Baltic countries, Greece and Cyprus, Moldova and Romania vote, the countries of the former Soviet Union - Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia often give Russian, Belarusian and Ukrainian representatives high marks due to the large number of Russian-speaking citizens living in them.
There are many similar examples. It is clear to everyone that voting on the principle of neighborhood is unfair, but in practice it is very difficult to deal with such a system. In order to minimize the consequences of the neighbor’s vote, a professional jury began to put their marks along with the audience’s vote. Based on the results, the total score for each of the participating countries is displayed. Nevertheless, it was not possible to completely eliminate the influence of friendly voting.
Despite the fact that voting on the principle of one or another community is still very noticeable and can have a significant impact on determining the winner of a competition, a positive fact can be stated - quite often, neighboring countries do not give each other maximum points. So, at a contest in Baku, the Russians gave their preference to the Swedish singer Lorin, who performed the song "Euphoria" and won a well-deserved victory. Considering that eighteen countries gave the maximum number of points to a participant from Sweden, it can be said that a talented performer who performs with a good song can win the competition regardless of which country he represents. Winning by a clear margin, he deliberately removes all questions in the honesty of the vote.
Lorin scored 372 points - this is a very high result. The runner-up Russian team, Buranovskie Granny, was 113 points behind her. While the record number of points at the Eurovision Song Contest was scored by Norwegian performer Alexander Rybak - 387 in 2009 at a competition in Moscow. His victory was also very bright, without any doubt. It is hoped that, as borders in Europe become blurred, neighborhood voting will become less and less important.
