In the Orthodox church tradition, there is the practice of having the godparents babies during the sacrament of baptism. Most often, the closest friends of the child's family become godparents. Godparents can be either one person or two people.

The main factor in choosing godparents is the faith of the latter and their churching. This is no coincidence, because the main responsibilities of the godparents are teaching, raising a child in the Orthodox faith, as well as the churching of the latter. Godparents are committed to God for the baby, deny the devil, and combine with Jesus Christ.
The obligation to teach the child the Orthodox faith includes talking with the baby, talking on spiritual topics. Godparents should buy appropriate literature when the child learns to read. The receivers (so-called godfathers) should help physiological parents to clarify the foundations of the Orthodox faith.
Godparents should be involved in the moral education of the child. It is the responsibility of the receivers to transmit the basic rules of Christian morality and ethics. Godparents should try to instill in the child a love of God and their neighbors, just like parents, the perceivers must take part in the spiritual education of the baby.
Godparents should try to church the child. That is, to teach the baby to attend the temple. For this, from a young age, a child needs to partake of the holy mysteries of Christ. When the baby is older, the godparents can help the first prepare for the sacrament of confession.
Another responsibility of the godparents is the prayerful commemoration of their godchildren. Caretakers should pray for the child both in the temple, ordering commemoration, and at home.
Godparents should know that they are accountable to God for their godson.
