Maria Makarova is a Russian singer, poet and composer. She created the musical rock band "Masha and the Bears", became her vocalist. The performer works in the genres psychedelic, alternative, indie and folk rock, grunge.

The beginning of the path to the musical Olympus
The biography of the future performer began in 1977. The girl was born in Krasnodar on September 6. A child grew up in a large family with twin brothers Mikhail and Daniil.
Mom worked as a teacher of a foreign language, At home there was always an atmosphere of creativity. Dad worked as a journalist, mom taught languages and wrote poetry.
The daughter chose her father's profession. Education Masha decided to receive at the Faculty of Journalism. She entered Kuban State University. Makarova began working at the first radio station in Krasnodar, "Fermat" DJ and presenter.
During the broadcasts, the creative abilities of the future star showed up. She herself worked on musical inserts, created lyrics. Vela Makarova programs dedicated to rock music.
An active student with pleasure organized events, studied music, wrote lyrics for songs. Gradually Makarova became famous. However, she was not inspired solely by the fame of a DJ.

Maria became a member of the local music groups "Drink" and "Makar Dubai." The bands were quite famous in the singer’s hometown. In 1996 Oleg Nesterov came on tour with the Megapolis team. During one of the concerts, Masha decided to give him her work.
The leader of the popular band appreciated the music. Pretty soon, the TV presenter and musician became the producer of the aspiring artist. In 1997 a contract was signed, a new group was founded. The Masha and the Bears team began work. Then the musicians moved to the capital to work on their debut album.
Clips for the first compositions “Without You” and “Lyubochka” were decided to be shot in India. The director was Mikhail Khleborodov. The hit "Lyubochka" appeared by chance. Masha wrote almost all the lyrics herself. However, she decided on an experiment, superimposing slightly modified words of Agnia Barto on the music. As a result, the song turned into a highlight of the disc.
Work on the first collection was carried out by the whole team, including Nesterov and the German director Brigitte Anderhusen. The premiere of Lyubochka was held in 1998 on Radio Maximum. Success has been phenomenal. According to the plot of the then shot video, Masha appeared in front of the audience as a cropped head. The other members of the group were in the same images. The vocalist let her hair flow down the Ganges as a sign of purification of karma.
After the release of the disc "Solntsekles" the group received the title "Breakthrough of the Year 1998". In addition to the hit, the album was supplemented by psychedelic rock compositions that did not resemble Lyubochka in any way.
New plans
The team ceased to exist at the peak of popularity in 2000. Makarova before the annual festival "Maksidrom" announced the dissolution of the team and the abandonment of performances. Before leaving the stage, the musicians presented the new single, "Earth."
Masha could not continue to work in the capital's show business. She refused an interview, did not participate in concerts. For four years, Makarova practically did not leave the house. She returned to Krasnodar and again left for Moscow.
By the end of 2004, the group "Masha and the Bears" was back. Performances continued. In 2008, the singer took part in the author’s project of Sergey Minko and Viktor Burko "Ya Maha" as a soloist. However, the idea was not successful outside the group. In 2008, along with rapper Noize Mc Makarova, she recorded a track in the hip-hop style of "Life Without Drugs".
The group "Masha and the Bears" introduced the fans a new collection in 2012. Separately from each other, as conceived by the creators, parts of the album entitled "The End" were released throughout the year. The reason was the significant date. The first presentation was the winter solstice, December 21st. The new part was released on the day of the spring solstice. Then, with the Bravo group, the songs “For You” and “I Believe” were recorded.
