Maria was born on March 15, 1981 in Moscow. Her father worked as a constructor at Baikonur, so their meetings were rare. Mom, who has an engineering degree, was fascinated by business during the perestroika period.
As a child, Maria attended a music school, where she played domra. This musical instrument was not chosen by chance. Love for him arose after attending a concert by a folk orchestra. Music so impressed the girl that she wanted to learn how to play as well. In this area, Shalaeva made good progress, was even accepted into the orchestra of folk instruments.
At first, Maria did not even think about acting. She wanted to be a ballerina. Then she took possession of the idea of becoming a student at the Moscow Aviation Institute.
