Supernatural phenomena from ancient times excite the consciousness of mankind. Ancestors were inclined to explain these events by the influence of magical forces. Today, in the age of the triumph of science, there are few people left who are ready to believe in magic. However, films about witchcraft and magic are still attractive, because they allow you to temporarily disconnect from the usual and predictable reality and plunge into mysterious fairy-tale worlds. The following films about magic can be called the most popular and interesting.
Warlock (1989)
The horror film directed by Steve Miner tells the story of an evil sorcerer who escaped from his execution from the Middle Ages in 1988. The fugitive is pursued by his sworn enemy Giles Redfern. As it turned out, the sorcerer has a goal - to put together an ancient book with which you can find out the real name of God. The sorcerer is going to pronounce the name on the contrary and, thereby, cause the end of the world.
Hocus Pocus (1993)
In the comedy fantasy film directed by Kenny Ortega, three treacherous witches are resurrected, who were executed 300 years ago. The Sanderson sisters want to get eternal youth, for this they need to eat all the children in the city. In addition, sorcerers need to get used to new customs that have changed a lot over the past centuries. But, carried away by various magical nasties, the sisters completely forgot about their cunning foe - a black cat.
Witchcraft (1996)
The mystical thriller directed by Andrew Fleming shows the arrival in Los Angeles of troubled teenager Sarah Bailey, who is trying to start a new life at a Catholic school. There she meets unusual girls Rochelle, Nancy and Bonnie, who are fond of occult rites. New friends tell Sarah that she also has witchcraft abilities. The appearance of the fourth witch allows the girls to use strong spells, and they begin to change everything that they do not like. However, the awakened magical powers are not so easy to control.
Sleepy Hollow (1999)
Tim Burton’s gothic horror film, based on the Washington Irving short story, is dedicated to investigating a chain of mysterious murders in a small village called Sleepy Hollow. All victims of crime were beheaded, and their heads disappeared. Locals claim that the killer is a mysterious headless horseman. The protagonist of the film, New York constable Ikabod Crane, soon becomes convinced that evil is really involved in this story.
The Lord of the Rings (2001-2003)
The famous trilogy of Peter Jackson, based on the novel of the same name by J.R. R. Tolkien, is dedicated to the world of Middle-earth. The dark lord Sauron creates magic rings and transfers them to the leaders of the three main races of Middle-earth - elves, people and gnomes. But in secret from everyone, Sauron forges another ring that can enslave the owners of all the other rings. The combined army of elves and humans managed to overthrow Sauron, but the ring of Omnipotence survived and was soon lost. Hundreds of years passed, Sauron regained strength. To ultimately defeat the Dark Lord, the ring must be destroyed. But the ring also has its own will and dreams of returning to its former owner. No one can resist the destructive influence of the ring of omnipotence except the hobbits - a small, cheerful people living in the north-west of Middle-earth.
