Brief biography and career of Leonid Vyacheslavovich Kuravlev
On October 8, 1936, a future artist was born in a simple Moscow family (father is a locksmith and mother is a housewife), who created many masterpieces that were included in the Golden Collection of Soviet and Russian cinema. The difficult childhood years when the mother was evicted in 1941 from the capital to the Murmansk Region for seven years did not break Leonid, who dreamed of becoming a movie actor.
But fate did not immediately become supportive of his talent. The first attempt to enter VGIK on the advice of a cousin was unsuccessful due to too much competition. However, after two years of work, Kuravlev again attempts to get a higher acting education, and it is bearing fruit. And even after entering VGIK for a course with Boris Vladimirovich Bibikov, Leonid fought for survival for the first two courses, since his natural closeness initially did not allow him to fully relax and gain confidence on the stage.
Leonid Kuravlev made his debut on the set with the participation of students directed by Alexander Gordon and Andrei Tarkovsky in graduation projects. It was their short film “There Will Be No Dismissal Today” that became the first experience of a novice actor. And after that, in 1960, Vasily Shukshin invited Kuravlyov to his graduation project - the film "From Swan Report." In the same year, Mikhail Schweitzer takes it to the historical painting "Michman Panin".
And the real fame comes to the aspiring actor in 1964, when he played in the comedy of Vasily Shukshin "Such a guy lives." Leonid Vyacheslavovich with great gratitude recalls the famous director and actor. The artist’s respect for great talent even made him call his son his name afterwards.
Currently, the number of films by Kuralev exceeds two hundred. Of particular note in his filmography are the following successful projects: "Wii" (1967), "Golden Calf" (1968), "Gogi, Burn, My Star" (1969), "Life and the Amazing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe" (1972), " Seventeen Moments of Spring "(1973), " Ivan Vasilyevich Changes the Profession "(1973), " Afonya "(1975), " It Can't Be! " (1975), "Ladies Invite Cavaliers" (1980), "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: The Twentieth Century Begins" (1986), "Trail of the Rain" (1991), "Thirtieth Destroy!" (1992), "The Brigade" (2002), "Streets of Broken Lights" (2005).
On his eightieth anniversary, the People's Artist of the RSFSR received congratulations from the President and the Prime Minister of Russia when he declared that for him moral values and a strong country are much more important than roles in the cinema.
