Unique mode of transport
It is interesting that the metro appeared back in those days when there were no buses or cars among the ground transport. History relates the appearance of the subway in the middle of the 19th century, namely in 1846. A native of London, Charles Pearston, presented to the Royal Railroad Association a new mode of transport project. Its appearance was quite practical, because it was hard for Londoners and city visitors to move around it, for example, to get from one end of the city to the other. Had to spend a lot of time.
The year 1860 is considered to be the year the beginning of the construction of the underground railway is logical. It is logical that it began in London, the city of the founder of the subway. It is worth saying that the underground railway was named after the name of the construction company that was engaged in its laying.
The first metro line was only 3.6 km long. It was launched in 1863. The train pulled the locomotive, it included four cars. The duration of the first trip in the London Underground was 33 minutes.
By the end of the 19th century, the metro became electrified. In general, if we talk about the history of the development of the subway in the world, then it happened rapidly. And no wonder. This transport turned out to be very convenient for a large city, the movement on which on the horses and cabs seemed endless.
