There is an opinion that the name Vadim is rooted in the Old Russian language or was derived from the Slavic Vadimir. However, the name Vadim was already used in ancient Persia, and the saint with this name is imprinted in the church calendar.

Men by the name of Vadim did not remain without their Orthodox heavenly patron, since the Church reveres the venerable martyr Vadim of Persia in the face of saints. This saint had the dignity of archimandrite (was the head of a man’s monastery) and lived in Persia in the 4th century, therefore church clergymen call this ascetic Persian. Memorial Day of St. Vadim of Persia is celebrated on April 22nd. This is the name day of all Vadim.
From the life of the saint it is known that the righteous man spent his life in the city of Bethlapat during the reign of the Persian state of King Sapor. In the IV century according to R.H., the Persians worshiped the sun and fire, being followers of the religion of Zoroastrianism. Vadim chose a different faith for himself - he became a Christian and was looking for a solitary ascetic life. This prompted the righteous to build a monastery outside the city, in which later Vadim became archimandrite.
Tsar Sapor, learning about the religion of Vadim, decided to imprison the saint in prison. At that time in Persia, all Christians that were known or reported to the king were tormented. Together with Vadim, a certain Nirsan was imprisoned in prison. In addition to the imprisonment of holy Christians, they betrayed various torments. Nirsan was unable to adequately endure physical suffering, and eventually renounced Jesus Christ. In evidence of the veracity of the detachment, the king ordered Nirsan to chop off his head to Saint Vadim with his sword. Nirsan, after conscientious hesitation, agreed and killed the archimandrite. It happened in 367.
The death of the holy righteous tormented Nirsan for a long time. Remorse caused the killer to despair, which resulted in the suicide of the latter.
