War veterans are in a special position. About 1 million people belong to this category of citizens. All of them are covered by the law "On Veterans", which provides former fighters with a number of benefits and privileges.

The law governing the veteran sphere clearly defines who the war veterans are, what rights and obligations they have, and what they can count on.
Who are war veterans
According to the legislation, the following categories of citizens are understood as war veterans:
- military personnel, as well as employees of law enforcement agencies sent to other countries and took military participation there. Those who were in Afghanistan, Angola, Vietnam, Tajikistan, etc. are considered as such. In addition, this category of citizens includes those fighters who participated in battles in Russia, defending its sovereignty;
- military personnel who helped to clear the territory of the country and other states from shells left after the Second World War;
- military motorists, as well as pilots who delivered both goods and people to Afghanistan;
- civilians who worked in Afghanistan during the period when Soviet troops were there.
