For many centuries Ukraine was not sovereign, it was not a question of occupation or capture, its territory was always relatively free, but as part of other principalities or states. Therefore, most of its holidays are the same as the festive dates of Russia, Lithuania, Austria, Hungary and Poland. But Ukraine became a modern state only in 1991, having the opportunity to become a young, but already independent country. And so the main holiday, which is one of the state ones, is Independence Day.
Ukrainian Independence Day is celebrated at the same time: August 24 from year to year. It is worth noting that state, as well as some church holidays in Ukraine are days off.
National Holidays
The calculation of public holidays begins at the beginning of the year, and, of course, the first refers to January 1 - New Year. In the same month, the second state and church holiday, the Nativity of Christ, is celebrated, it is also celebrated at the same time - January 7th. It is followed by International Women's Day, which falls on the beginning of March, namely the 8th day, when all women are congratulated by men, presenting them with various gifts.
Next, it is time to celebrate Easter, but this is not a public holiday, and therefore the day is not a day off. This church holiday does not have a fixed date and therefore can be celebrated in April or May.
Unlike Russia, Ukraine has retained the original name first: today, the holiday is called Labor Day.
Easter is followed by public holidays: May 1 (International Workers' Day) and May 9 (Victory Day).
