The political regime is a way of government or technology of power. It can be different. It is good when there is a choice in which of them to live, but sometimes fate does not leave such a choice.
Types of Political Regimes
Authoritarian and totalitarian are regimes of political arbitrariness, in which, despite the formal presence of democratic institutions, governance is carried out by one person, without taking into account the opinion and majority, especially of the progressively minded opposition minority.
To maintain the semblance of democracy, “pocket” parties are created under the auspices of one ruling party. The military-police repressive state apparatus is also strengthening, while corruption and arbitrariness penetrate all structures of power. As a result, the cult of one ruling personality is formed.
Authoritarian-totalitarian regime
Under such a regime, there is no ideological pluralism, democracy is eradicated, elections of various branches of government are canceled, an independent judicial system is leveled, censorship is introduced in the media, the activities of extrasystemic opposition and independent non-governmental associations and foundations are prohibited, strict regulation of citizens' activities is introduced, and repressive ideology is introduced through social demagogy. Vivid examples of such a rule: the regimes of Joseph Stalin, Adolf Hitler, Muammar Gaddafi, Saddam Hussein.
Transitional and emergency
These are, as a rule, short-term political regimes formed as a result of coups, revolutions and upheavals. Government at a transitional political regime is, at best, carried out either by a collegial democratic way, or by passionaries - charismatic individuals who observe democratic principles. In the worst case, the head of the government is a puppet politician, controlled not by explicit leaders, but by the so-called "gray cardinals" who know how to wage an undercover struggle of intrigue.
Examples of positive governance: in South Korea, the government of Lee Seung Man, in France - Georges Pompidou, in Poland - Lech Walesa, in the Czech Republic - Vaclav Havel, in South Africa - Nelson Mandela, in Georgia - Mikheil Saakashvili.
Examples of negative governance: in North Korea, rule under the leadership of Kim Il Sung, in the USSR - Mikhail Gorbachev, in Yugoslavia - Slobodan Milosevic, in Ukraine - Viktor Yushchenko.
Democratic regime
This is a political regime in which state power is formed and operates on the principle of subordinating the minority to the majority, but with the obligatory consideration of the opinions and demands of the minority. Government bodies are formed by elective means.
Under democratic regimes, political parties carry out free activity, and there is no dominant ideology in the state, the main principle is freedom of speech and respect for the constitutional rights of each person, and political activity and the maturity of a civil society that defends its interests are encouraged.
In a democracy, censorship and attempt on the will, rights and civil liberties of the individual are unacceptable. Democracy guarantees national religious freedom and cultural independence.
