1
According to historians, Gypsies many centuries ago left the territory of India, after which they were scattered around the world. It is difficult to find a country where the foot of the “Roma” would not have stepped — that is how the gypsies themselves call their fellow tribesmen. The uniqueness of this people lies, in particular, in that, while preserving their traditions, they do not remain indifferent to the influence of other cultures.
2
Among today's gypsies, two main groups can be distinguished - nomads and those who lead a settled lifestyle. Nomadic life, when the camp, sometimes consisting of hundreds of gypsies, including young children, women and the elderly, is still found both in Russia and around the world. Often, gypsies from poorer regions tend to go abroad, choosing big cities, hoping to make money there. Unfortunately, the level of education among Roma youth and children remains far from the norm. Therefore, most of the nomadic camp gypsies, as a rule, expect to earn money by begging, fortune-telling and fraud on the streets of megacities.
3
In a number of European cities, following an appropriate decision by local authorities, Gypsies were evicted to certain areas. And the camps, which from time to time appear in parks and squares of large cities, often cause fierce disapproval of local residents. Gypsies are accused of parasitism, unwillingness to work, a penchant for various kinds of crime, etc.
4
Wandering gypsies for stops choose the outskirts of cities, forests. On the territory of Russia, according to official statistics, the camps that set up camps are periodically identified. In order to create a temporary shelter in the forest, gypsies use a wide variety of materials - plywood, cardboard, polyethylene, etc. Unfortunately, not only camp gypsies live in such primitive conditions. For example, on the outskirts of Belgrade, Serbian Gypsies have created a whole city, whose houses are created from what "came to hand."
5
Among the gypsies today there are both poor, barely affluent representatives (for example, immigrants from Central Asia, who indulge in begging in Russia), and very rich. Representatives of the gypsy diaspora, who lead a sedentary lifestyle, tend to seek a luxurious lifestyle. Magnificent stone and brick houses, laden with expensive furniture, paintings in gilded frames, an abundance of colorful carpets and marble stairs - this is not a complete list of the "attributes" of such mansions.
6
In gypsy houses, one or several families can live. Among the traditions inherent in this people, a special place is held by the respect of young people for the older generation. Men and women of advanced age enjoy unquestioned authority among other members of the family. At weddings and other holidays, accompanied by a feast, the oldest guests must sit in the most honorable places.
