For decades, anti-religious and anti-church policies have been pursued in Russia, new generations have been brought up outside of Christian traditions and customs, which have been lost over time. With the revival of Orthodoxy, Russians again began to attend churches, to be baptized, to get married, but many still feel insecure in the service, although it is enough to know several rules of conduct in the church.
Instruction manual
1
As you prepare to attend the temple, think about what you want to tell God about what to pray for, and what to repent of.
2
You should dress modestly, cleanly and neatly at the service. It is advisable for women to wear a long skirt with a blouse or a dress that hides the shoulders, chest and legs above the knees, and cover the head with a scarf. Makeup should be minimal, and lips should not be painted. Men need to be dressed in trousers and a shirt, shorts and T-shirts are not allowed, and the headdress at the entrance to the temple is supposed to be removed.
3
To put candles, file notes, pray at the images of saints, come to church in advance, 15-20 minutes before the service begins. At the entrance to the temple, cross with your right hand three times and bow. Disconnect your mobile phone, get rid of extraneous thoughts.
4
Upon entering the church, submit notes on the health and repose of relatives, friends, acquaintances. Put candles: for the repose - on the eve with a small crucifix, which differs from the others in a rectangular shape, and for health - on any candlestick. Apply to the images of the saints by touching the bottom of the icon with your lips.
5
Try to take a place to see and hear everything. If it’s hard to stand the whole service, sit down for a while on the bench, but be sure to stand when the king’s gates open and while reading the Gospel. Do not turn your back to the altar.
6
During the service, do not look around, do not look at the parishioners, do not talk, do not be distracted from prayers and chants. You can’t walk around the temple, pass candles. If you came to the temple with children, explain to them that you need to be quiet, not to make noise and not to run.
7
When priests overshadow with a cross, the Gospel, a holy cup or image, cross themselves and bow their heads, and when overshadowing with a sign of the Cross, censer or candles you only need to bow. At the blessings of the Holy Trinity or Jesus, at the beginning and end of each prayer, as well as on the words "Lord have mercy" and "Give, Lord, " one should be baptized.
8
You can remember the whole order of worship with experience, and if there is none, just do the same as the others: baptize, make bow or earth obeisances, bow your head, sing, etc.
9
It is advisable to defend the entire service, perceiving it not as a duty, but as a sacrifice to God. If for some reason you need to leave before its end, try to do it in such a way as not to disturb other parishioners.
