The patron saint is an invisible spiritual mentor, assistant and leader of every Christian. According to religious dogmas, it is given to every person at baptism. A man bears the name of this patron, tries with his life to imitate his feat.
Instruction manual
1
The name of your patron saint is your name given at baptism. For most people, this is a passport name, except when the name does not comply with the canons (there are no Orthodox saints Rosa, Alice, etc.). If you were baptized in infancy, ask your Christian name from the recipient (godparent). If baptized in adulthood, you know that name.
2
Find an Orthodox calendar. On the day of your baptism or within 40 years of your birth, the memory of the saint bearing your name should be celebrated. Such a saint must be found, more often there are even a few. Choose a day closer to the date of baptism or birth.
3
In the Orthodox month of the word, for example, in the twelve-volume book of Dmitry Rostovsky βThe Life of the Saintsβ (the link is given under the article), find the month and date of memory of the saint. Read his life. When choosing a date, follow the correspondence of the old and the new style (13 days difference, the new style is a little ahead). Otherwise, you may find the wrong saint or not find at all.
