Communication is our tool for connecting with the world. Through conversation, we convey our thoughts to other people and try to understand what they have said. But, unfortunately, not every person is given through speech to reach people's hearts. To improve communication skills and to feel relaxed in society, you need to know only five simple rules.
Parasite words - down!
The more often “mmm”, “um”, “a”, “in general” and similar words are found in the speaker’s speech, the more often the listener is distracted from the topic of conversation, more tense and gradually loses interest in the speaker. Parasite words are undoubtedly a thing to get rid of. If in this way you try to take awkward pauses between your thoughts, then accept the truth: silence is better than constantly repeating words. Start controlling your speech and over time you will notice that along with the parasitic words, awkward pauses disappeared, and the speech became quick and natural.
Your life story is more interesting than you think
To win over people, you need to open yourself to them. The best way is to tell about yourself. No need to express common phrases that teach us to talk about ourselves in English. Remember some funny or unusual story of your life. Start telling and you yourself will not notice how you remember one more and another. Of course, to go deep into the depths and turn your life inside out is not worth it, but a couple of examples from personal experience will not hurt.
Good listener worth its weight in gold
Do not be afraid to ask questions. Most people like to be interested in their lives. If you don’t know where to start, ask questions that you yourself would like to hear. Plans for the summer, work, family. Even the most hackneyed topics can be very important for your interlocutor. Do not forget that the most important thing in communication, especially if you ask questions, is the ability to listen. Do not relate to the interlocutor with dissatisfaction about his constant nagging, do not be distracted by checking SMS in your phone, do not switch the subject. Let your interlocutor speak out by listening carefully to him, and you will gain another person’s trust.
Different audiences - different terms
Always remember who is surrounding you at the moment. If you are a corporate party, then do not go into the details of your personal life. In meetings with friends, do not delve into work stories. At an official meeting, forget about your desires, speak only on the topic. Choose the style of your communication based on your environment.
