"Titanic" is a catastrophe film about the death of an American-British passenger liner of the same name, shot in 1997 by director James Cameron. The film set a record for box office and the number of Oscars received, out of 14 nominations, he received 11.
Preliminary work
According to director Cameron, the creation of the Titanic script was inspired by the documentary of the National Geographic channel and the work of his friend Lewis Eberneti, telling the story of the legendary airliner. It took him about 7 years to write the script, and the starting company $ 3 million in 1995 was allocated by the 20th Century Fox film company.
The Titanic movie was worth more than the Titanic ship itself. The construction of the Titanic ship cost 4 million pounds, which in modern money is 100 million pounds, and the cost of the film is 125 million pounds.
The director used this money to shoot a short documentary film, which later became the basis of a full-length feature film. Cameron personally made several dives to the Titanic at the Russian deep-sea bathyscaphes Mir-1 and Mir-2. In the process of diving, the material was shot, which was then used in the film. In parallel with underwater shooting, an animated video of the catastrophe of the liner was created, which also later went into the film. The presented material convinced the producers to allocate money for the shooting of an epic motion picture. Filming of the future masterpiece was launched in the fall of 1996.
Previously, at the beginning of 1996, a giant filming pavilion was built on the coast of the Mexican state of Baja California, and with the help of several tons of dynamite an artificial pool with a displacement of 4 million liters was created.
