A wedding is a celebration of uniting two loving hearts and creating a new family. From this point of view, it is quite interesting to consider wedding traditions and customs of different nations, because each of them does this in his own way. An Uzbek wedding is no exception.
How is the traditional wedding in Uzbekistan
Like many other nations, an Uzbek wedding is a big event, the most important thing in a person’s life, to which dozens or even hundreds of relatives, friends and acquaintances invite. Naturally, they prepare for such a celebration in advance - almost from the birth of children. The mother begins to collect dowry for her daughter when the girl is six years old. Finding a bride for a young man is called "Kelin Egalash." When a suitable girl was found, matchmakers, the Sovchi, were sent to her house, who visited the future bride’s family three times. The third visit meant the consent of the girl’s parents. Then an engagement day was appointed in the bride's house - "fotikha tuy". It happened after the groom paid kalym and presented various gifts to the girl’s parents. A council was held in the groom’s house at which organizational issues were resolved, including the wedding itself, a responsible person was appointed to deal with these issues. On the day of Fotih Tuy, a rite of breaking flat cakes was performed - non Sindirar, to which the closest relatives of both sides were invited.
The first day of the wedding begins with a festive morning pilaf. Two such events are held: for women and for men separately - “hotin oshi” and “fucking oshi, ” respectively. Both of these events are accompanied by national music, songs and dances. Then they invite the priest, who conducts the wedding. The imam says a prayer for the young - "nikoh", after which, in the Islamic tradition, marriage is considered perfect. Then the rite of farewell for the bride and family takes place. A white path was scattered to the door of the house, along which the girl was supposed to go, and then bow at the threshold. When the bride came to the house, she was escorted to the room where she would live. Her things and dowry were left there. In the same room they treated the groom and his friends, and then drove off the other men, leaving only the newlyweds.
