Instruction manual
1
To obtain a residence permit, you need to have a temporary residence permit in Russia, unless you belong to certain categories of people (for example, these are citizens of Belarus, stateless persons who previously were citizens of the USSR, who arrived in the Russian Federation before entry into force Federal Law "On the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation").
2
Organize the translation and legalization of your documents not in Russian. The accuracy of the translation and the authenticity of the signature of the translator must be certified by a notary. It is better to start doing this in advance, since the package of documents is quite large. If you have children, then remember that you will need to properly translate, certify and submit documents for them too (birth certificate).
3
Not later than six months before the expiration of the temporary residence permit, you need to contact the territorial (at the place of residence) FMS authority with a package of documents. Within six months, the FMS body will decide on the issue of a residence permit to you. A decision will be sent to you by mail.
4
After receiving the notification, contact the same FMS body directly for a residence permit. Upon receipt of the notice, register at the place of residence by submitting an appropriate application. Every year you have to confirm the registration.
5
A residence permit is issued for a five-year period and can be renewed an unlimited number of times. No later than six months before the expiration of its validity, you should apply for its extension.
