The folk wisdom of “houses and walls help” is especially relevant for draftees. Of course, it’s more convenient to serve in parts that are closer to your home. But the principle of extraterritoriality of the Russian Army does not always leave young men in their native lands. Although some exceptions to the rules still exist.

Instruction manual
1
Prepare a package of documents for submission to the military commandant’s office. According to the current legislation, the commissariat can decide to call up a soldier in the nearest military units in exceptional cases. For example, if a conscript is married and has a young child, then he may be left to serve in his hometown. In this case, it is necessary to independently present the original and a copy of the certificate of marriage and the birth of a child at the commandant’s office or documents replacing them (certificates from the registry office). To date, it is this argument for the commandant’s staff that is the most convincing in the issue of sending recruits to local military units.
2
Notify the draft board that you are dependent on elderly parents, pensioners or other family members. In this case, you will need to prove by document that you are the main breadwinner in the family and that your parents regularly need your care because of their health and do not work. Take a certificate of employment, a certificate of subsidy (in the event that the family uses the benefits of the state), copies of pension certificates of parents. In some cases, you will also be asked orally to prove or talk about what the care is and how you provided it before the call.
3
Contact the employer for a request to the military commissariat if, at the time of the call, you are employed in local government: the municipality, regional administration, local parliaments, etc. At the request of local authorities, the commissariat may make concessions, however, the army will have the final say.
4
State your preferences to the members of the commission during its passage. Ask to record that you would like to serve in a specific unit or in certain troops. As a rule, members of the commission take into account the wishes of the conscript, and if due to health and other criteria the young man is suitable for service in this unit, the commission has nothing against going towards the recruit.
