After a person’s death, in order to adequately say goodbye to him and complete his earthly journey with a ritual of burial, all traditions that people have been following for centuries should be observed. One of the most important points is the robe for the deceased, corresponding to his faith, customs and his own dying wishes of the deceased person.

Previously, it was customary to dress the dead man in all white. Moreover, a person had to prepare clothes for death in advance: she was sewn only on her hands with the needle forward, without knots - the deceased was not allowed to be tied. The man’s head was covered with a shroud - a thin scarf with a sharp top and a cloth resting on the back, a light shawl was intended for the woman. Today, in the Orthodox tradition of the deceased, it is customary to dress in everything new, clean. Things should fit well, not be large and baggy, or tightly squeezed. If the welfare of the family does not allow you to purchase a new set of clothes, it is allowed to dress the deceased in everything clean.
2
If a person during his life prepared for himself a suit or dress for a funeral, his desire must be fulfilled. But first you need to make sure that this clothing is clean, tidy and fits the deceased in size. It is customary to bury the deceased in clothing that matches the season and weather. Prepare shoes with a back, soft and presentable.
3
Military people are usually dressed in ceremonial military uniforms. Front-line soldiers often punish relatives to put all the orders on them at the funeral, because any of the relatives do not need personalized military awards anyway, and many years later they may even be lost. Do not violate the will of the deceased, who deserved these rewards.
4
Cover the forehead of a dead Christian with a whisk, a symbol of the crown of the kingdom of heaven. The Corolla traditionally depicts the Savior, the Mother of God and John the Baptist. The words of the Trisagion song should be written on the crown. The whisk is sold in a church shop. The lips of the deceased should be tightly closed, the hands located on the chest crosswise, as if in prayer - the right over the left, this is a sign of the Crucified Christ. Put the Savior icon or crucifix in your hands. The icon should be removed immediately before the burial - it cannot be buried.
5
Cover the clothed body to the waist with a white sheet or burial shroud, which depicts the Crucifixion - a symbol of the one who died under the cover of Christ. Under your head put a flat pillow made of cotton wool or dry grass (a pillowcase is filled with consecrated branches of willows, birch leaves consecrated in the church on Palm Sunday or on the day of the Holy Trinity).

According to Sharia, it is forbidden to bury the deceased in clothes. In the Muslim religion, it is customary to wrap the deceased in a shroud (kafan). It should be made of chintz or white canvas. Kafan traditionally consists of three parts: lyphoph, isor and kamis. The first is a fabric that will cover the deceased completely, from head to toe, so that the shroud is easily tied on both sides. The lower part of the body is wrapped with isor (a piece of fabric), and kamis is a shirt with a neckline for the head. For women, a chymor is provided - a scarf for the head and hair measuring 2 m by 60 cm. One lyopha is used for the funeral of deceased infants. The fabric for the Muslim shroud should correspond to the material wealth of the deceased. The body of a man is forbidden to cover with silk.
note
Today, the entire Christian or Muslim ritual of washing and donning the deceased can be observed only if the body was not transferred to the morgue. Or the relatives of the deceased will have to make every effort to be able to quickly prepare the deceased properly after formal procedures. Under Russian law, it is impossible to obtain a death certificate without transferring the body to the morgue. However, in the morgue, for an additional fee, they can perform a ritual of washing and vesting the deceased. To do this, hand over all the prepared clothes to the employee in advance.
Useful advice
Do not put foreign objects in the coffin: books, money, jewelry, products, photographs. These superstitious customs are remnants of paganism. A deceased cross can be worn on the deceased and, if desired, a wedding ring, if he was married.
