Engineering troops, or colloquially building battalion, are engaged in the construction activities necessary for other branches of the armed forces to carry out their tasks. Service in the construction battalion is considered difficult and not too honorable, so the desire of the conscript to avoid getting into the engineering troops is quite understandable.

1
The probability of getting into the building forces is much higher for a draftee who does not have any skills useful for military service. For example, if you are a skydiver, you can count on service in the Airborne Forces. If you have a driver’s license, then with a very high probability you will serve as a driver. You have skills in radio parts - you will get into the communications troops, technical units of the Air Force, etc. - that is, where your skills will be in demand.
2
If you do not want to get into the construction battalion, you should acquire certain skills. However, many of them do not need to be documented; during a conversation at the military registration and enlistment office you will simply be asked a few questions. For example, if you were engaged in radio business, you may be asked about how the power supply or a simple radio is arranged. For the ham radio operator, there will be no difficulties in answering these questions; as a result, you are guaranteed to be in good troops. In modern conditions, computer skills and programming skills are useful.
3
Primary registration for a particular military branch takes place at the stage of obtaining a registered certificate while studying at school. Here you should be realistic and understand that if you, at your request, are pre-registered in the Airborne Forces, then this still does not mean anything. To get into the elite troops, you must at least have good physical fitness. On the other hand, if you ask for troops of communications, your chances will be great enough.
4
The place of your studies also affects getting into these or other troops - if you managed to enter a university or other educational institution before serving in the army. Not all of them have military departments, so after the first year you can be drafted into the army. If you study at a technical institute, your chances of getting into a construction battalion tend to zero. On the other hand, you can be in the construction battalion, even studying at the university at the natural sciences or humanities faculty. In the army, it is precisely technical skills that are needed, so the humanities have quite a good chance of being in the building forces.
5
Be sure to monitor your health. If you have poor eyesight, you must prove that you can’t serve at all, or come to the draft board without points. The worst option is when you are deemed fit for service, but with limitations, in this case, the road to the construction battalion is almost guaranteed to you.
