It does not matter what prompted you to decide to publish your material in the newspaper: the desire to achieve recognition of your talent, the desire to share your own thoughts and discoveries, or dreams of a journalistic career. To achieve publication, it is not necessary to have a diploma of journalism, but talent and desire are welcome. Add to them some useful tips below, and you can firmly go to the editorial office!
Instruction manual
1
If your article is focused on a specific newspaper, make sure that the topic of your material for this newspaper is relevant. It is unlikely that an article about the design and use of centralized lubrication systems will be printed in a newspaper about hunting and fishing.
2
Write interestingly, observing the logical connection between sentences and paragraphs, without leaving the subject. The surest way to create a truly fascinating and interesting article is to write what you know, what you are competent in.
3
Before sending an article to the editor, go there or call to find out if materials written on their own initiative are accepted for publication. If they answer in the affirmative, specify what are the requirements for the article and whether they will pay a fee for it in case of publication. If it’s not possible to find out all this, buy the latest issue of the newspaper and study the texts published in it. What volume, genre, target audience, etc.
4
Some advise to go to the editor "ahead" and put his article on the table. Sometimes this helps, but more often such actions do not cause the editor neither sympathy for you, nor even the desire to read the article. Send your material by letter, briefly indicate its advantages. The shorter and clearer your letter, the higher the chance that they will read it.
5
Wait for a response from the editor. Be prepared to refuse, but if your article is not accepted, do not despair! This does not mean that your article is poorly written, and you are mediocre. Perhaps the editor simply had a bad mood. Try contacting the same editorial office with the same article.
6
It may happen that the material interested the editor, but the article should be amended. Clarify the deadline - the deadline by which the article should be ready - and edit it on time and in accordance with the requirements.
note
You should not at the same time agree with different editions on the publication of the same article of yours. This can lead to unpleasant consequences.
