Instruction manual
1
Refer to the archived data of the Memorial electronic information repository. To do this, go to http://www.obd-memorial.ru . There you can find information collected from combat reports of losses, obtained from reports of military hospitals and other reliable sources. The main goal of this Internet project is precisely to help modern residents of Russia to collect complete information about their loved ones, dead and missing in the war.
2
Open the menu and select "Search through the generalized database". In the field, enter the last name, first name and patronymic of the person you need. Then click the search button.
3
Look at the list of names that opens before you. Next to them will be indicated the dates and places of birth, as well as the time of "departure" from the ranks of the troops. Click on the desired line and a page with more detailed information will open in front of you.
4
View information about the date and place of conscription, military rank, and last place of service of the soldier you need. If you click on the link in the "Sources of factual information" field, you will see the document on the basis of which the data were entered into the database. In these reports you can find information about the time of the death of the soldier and the place of his burial.
5
If you did not find the person you need in the database, try doing an independent search. Summarize all the information that you know about the missing soldier: full name, when and from where he was called up, what kind of troops he served. You can find out with the help of old photographs, memoirs of relatives, front-line letters. Contact the regional library and ask for a Memory Book - this multi-volume publication contains information about the dead soldiers drafted from your region. The largest Russian database of dead soldiers is located in Moscow, in the museum on Poklonnaya Hill. Also make a request to the Central Archive of the Ministry of Defense and the archives of the city where the missing soldier was called from. Do not lose hope, continue the search, and your actions will not be unsuccessful.
