Instruction manual
1
Pay attention to the weight of the stone. In the jewelry industry, it is traditionally measured in carats and points (these are smaller units). It’s not very easy to determine the weight of a stone by eye, but if you have a sample whose weight is known, you can roughly match the stones in size. Identical stones often have similar weight, although keep in mind that this is not necessary. During processing, the diamond loses weight and it often happens that a larger stone is lighter than a small one. By the way, the value of diamonds is also not always determined solely by size. Perfectly crafted stone can be much more expensive than a larger one, but worse than a faceted one.
2
The processed diamond can have a different shape. Cutting is done according to different schemes and standards, but you need to understand that a lot depends on the processing of the stone. An ideal diamond face has the shape of a flattened pyramid located on an inverted pyramid. This form of faceting was invented in order to maximize the attractiveness of stone processing. It is with such a cut that the diamond facets sparkle best in the sun. Of course, a diamond face is not the only type of processing. The shape of diamonds can also be rectangular, square, pear-shaped or even heart-shaped.
3
Defects such as scratches or stains can significantly reduce the price of a stone. No wonder one of the main properties of diamond is its purity. If the stone, even if very large, contains blotches or cloudy areas, its price drops very much. Pay attention to the color of the stone. Natural diamonds have a slightly yellowish tint, absolutely transparent stones are considered the standard. There are also diamonds with a variety of colors: pink, blue or blue. In nature, this is rare, but still, if you are lucky enough to become the owner of colored diamond, its price will be incredibly high. Sometimes jewelers artificially color diamonds - this is considered quite acceptable. Of course, it is worth bearing in mind that the price of such stones cannot be compared with natural colored diamond.
note
To verify the authenticity of the stone, do not hesitate to ask the sellers for documents confirming it. This may be a certificate from the Institute of Gemstones or a written guarantee from the seller himself.
