Yivan Kirla is a Soviet actor and poet of Mari descent. He became popular after his role in the film "A ticket to life." The peak of his acting career came in the 30s. He not only acted in films, but also went to the theatrical stage.

Biography: early years
Yivan Kirlya, nee Kirill Ivanovich Ivanov, was born on March 17, 1909 in the village of Kupsola, in the Republic of Mari El. His father was a member of the Committee of the Poor, he was a very active member. For this he paid with his life. Local fists brutally killed him. Mother alone raised three children. In order to somehow make her life easier, Yivan began to work early. He was a shepherd and a farm laborer among wealthy villagers, and also often asked for alms in the city.
Despite the hardships of life, he managed to graduate from the first stage school in his native village. To continue his studies, Kirla left for the neighboring village of Sernur. At 17, he was sent on a ticket to study at Kazan University.
As a student, Yyvan became an active participant in the amateur circle. He soon became interested in poetry. So, Yivan thoroughly studied the work of Sergei Yesenin, Alexander Zharov, Vladimir Mayakovsky.
Kirlya did not miss a single university creative evening. Teachers drew attention to his mastery of reincarnation on stage and sent to the acting department of the State College of Cinematography.
Career
In 1929, director Nikolai Ekk began filming the first Soviet sound film "A ticket to life", in the center of the plot of which there were street children. Yivan was among the students of the acting faculty invited to participate in the crowd. The director immediately drew attention to him. So Kirlya got the role of Mustafa, the leader of the street children.
The shooting went on for almost two years. The picture was released on Soviet screens in 1931. It was a success with the audience, and some of the phrases of the hero Kirlie became winged, among them the famous: "Sleight of hand and no fraud." Having experience of vagrancy, Yivan perfectly got used to the role of a homeless child.
After Kirl school, he began working at the Vostokfilm film studio. For two years, he starred in several films, including "Viceroy of the Buddha." At the same time, he decided to take a pseudonym. "Yivan Kirla" in translation from Mari means "Cyril, son of Ivan."
In 1937, he moved to Yoshkar-Ola, where he was accepted into the troupe of the Mari Drama Theater. Kirla was involved in a number of performances. Among them are "Love Spring" and "Dubrovsky".

At the same time as working on the stage, he composed verses. The works of his poetry were published in the Mari Yal newspaper. Ywan also released three collections of poems in the Mari language. In 1937 he was admitted to the Union of Writers of the USSR.
