Born in Pilsen on July 14, 1939. In the postwar period, the family moved to the capital - Prague. From childhood, Karel draws and dreams of an artist's career. But after school, he doesn’t succeed in entering the art academy and the young man goes to school to receive the specialty of an electrician. After graduating from college, Gott works at a tram factory, and in the evenings sings in cafes and clubs.
In 1960 he entered the Prague Conservatory, at the Department of Opera Singing.
Creativity and touring
The fame of the singer begins his journey with the advent of the twist. Karel receives fame in Czechoslovakia and begins to tour: Poland, the USSR. Everywhere recognize the talent of the singer. In 1962, Gott came to work at the Semafor Theater. Already in the same year, Karel’s song in a duet with Vlasta Prukhova won on the radio in the charts. And in 1963 he received the first prize in the music competition "The Golden Nightingale".
Since 1965, Karel Gott has founded his Apollo Theater, but he has been working for only two years, after which he goes on a tour to Las Vegas. Returning, the singer finds himself in the mainstream direction. He becomes a very popular performer in Eastern and Western Europe. His career is skyrocketing. He is recording a debut disc, which is awarded the status of "golden".
Worldwide fame and success
In 1968, Karel Gott performs at the Eurovision Song Contest from Austria and takes 13th place. The popularity is growing. The hit "Lady Carneval" and others provide him with popular fame.
Karel Gott is very popular not only at home, but also abroad. He is especially loved in the USSR, where he tours even in the most remote regions, performs songs in Russian without any accent. In 1987, the singer performs on "Song of the Year" in the Soviet Union with Sofia Rotaru. All his albums in the 70s and 80s come out on top in the charts. In his homeland, Gott is the number one singer for several decades. His repertoire includes pop and classical music.
