Biography
Mark Gattis was born in 1966 in Sedgefield, a small English city. Directly opposite the house was a psychiatric clinic in which his parents worked, Mark often visited them at work. Therefore, he has many childhood memories of the inhabitants of the clinic and its employees.
It was in the clinic that he began to learn the world of cinema when he went there for sessions. He especially liked to watch horror films and fantasy - the boy could not be torn off the screen. He even tried to write something in these genres.
Consciously writing scripts for films, Mark began as a student at Bretton Hall College. The first thing he wrote was the continuation of the Doctor Who series in his own way. It was both a serious test of the pen and learning the skills of a screenwriter.
According to his stories, several episodes of this film were shot, and then his scripts were used on the set of new episodes of Doctor Who in 2005.
TV and movie career
At the end of the nineties of the last century, Mark and his friends made the TV show "League of Gentlemen", where they showed short humorous plays. The program was a huge success, it was sold out, and for this work the show was awarded several times with prestigious prizes. It was a powerful incentive to continue working on television.
However, Mark was also interested in cinema, and he simultaneously played episodic roles in the films Poirot, Birthday Girl, Gloomy House, Game of Thrones and others. Moreover, in many films he will be included in the process as a screenwriter-co-author, bringing to the plot a lot of interesting points.
Once there came a time when Gattis got complete freedom of action: for the film "First People on the Moon" (2010), he completely wrote the script, was its producer and even played a role in it.
This year was successful for Gattis: a film was released about Sherlock Holmes with the participation of Benedict Cumberbatch. The picture became a cult, and the script for it was written by Mark Gattis and Stephen Moffat. The fourth season of “Sherlock” was released in 2016-2017, and the scriptwriters are not going to stop - they are composing Holmes’s new adventures. The famous hero continues to live in this project.
Of the last acting work of Gattis, one can name the role in the series "Taboo" (2017) - he created here the image of the young king George IV.
