From the biography of Elena Aleksandrovna Fomina
The future athlete and coach of the women's football team was born in Moscow on April 5, 1979. Elena's father was fond of football and even played for the national team of his enterprise. It was he who instilled in his daughter a love of sports. In school years, Lena actively played football with the boys, becoming a full member of the yard team. In the end, she asked her father to take her to the football section. The father approved the choice of the daughter, but mother was against it.
The football section coach immediately noticed the girl’s abilities and urged her parents to send her to a specialized football school. Elena was 10 years old when her father took her to the football club "Rus". Here she gained mastery under the strict guidance of coach Mikhail Makarshin.
Football was time consuming. Often the girl had to complete school homework in the subway when she got to school. However, with her studies, things were fine. Mom tried to instill in Elena love first for music, then for gymnastics, figure skating and karate. But Fomina’s desire to play football was stronger. For several years Elena played for FC Rus.
Sports career
When Elena completed her studies at school, her mother insisted that her daughter choose a more feminine and less traumatic profession, rather than sports. But the future star has already been noticed and offered her a place in the women's football team.
Fomina successfully combined training and numerous tournaments with studies at the capital’s Academy of Physical Culture.
In 1999, the girl first appeared at the World Cup, which took place in America. The Russian team then took fifth place. After that, the country spoke loudly about women's football. At the next world championship, held four years later, Elena was already the team captain. She managed to score several significant goals in the championship. In general, Fomina played more than a hundred matches in the national team.
Coaching
At some point, Elena had health problems. And the doctors urged her to switch to coaching. She started as the second coach of FC Rossiyanka. Subsequently, it grew to the post of full-fledged coach of the club. To her experience of the game, Elena added the coaching education received at the Academy of Coaching Skills.
In 2015, Fomina was offered to become the head coach of the country's women's team. The popularity of women's football in Russia is not too high. However, Elena Alexandrovna, with the support of her colleagues, is doing everything possible to develop this area in sports.
