Edward Furlong woke up as a celebrity after playing the young John Connor in the legendary blockbuster Terminator 2. When Furlong became an adult, his film career began to decline. In recent years, he has starred mainly in category B films.
Role in "Terminator 2" and other successes of the actor in the nineties
Edward Furlong was born in August 1977 in the city of Glendale, located in the state of California. His mother, a Mexican by nationality, was called Eleanor Torres, but the name of the biological father is unknown (there is evidence that he has Russian roots).
Until 1991, Edward was the most ordinary child. His fate changed dramatically after the casting agent Mali Finn invited him to try on the role of John Connor in James Cameron's film "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." As a result, Furlong was chosen among a large number of applicants.
After the release of the film, he became famous throughout the world, and this allowed him to receive new profitable offers from filmmakers. In 1992, Edward starred in the horror film "Pet Cemetery 2", as well as in the crime tape "American Heart".
In "American Heart, " Edward played the role of a young man named Nick. Fearlong’s partner on the set was the famous actor Jeff Bridges - he played Nick’s father, a felon, who dreams of starting a crime after returning and starting life from scratch. For work at the American Heart, Furlong was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award.
Around the same period, the young man became interested in music and recorded an album in the style of pop rock "Hold On Tight". It is interesting that this album had the greatest popularity in Japan.
Over the next few years, Furlong starred in such films as Our Own Home (1993), Brain Scan (1994), Little Odessa (1994), Meadow Harp (1995), Before and After (1996)) But perhaps the peak of Furlong’s work as an actor was the role of neo-Nazi Danny Vinyard in the cult drama “American History X.” For this role, he was nominated for the prestigious American Young Artist Awards.
Further fate of Edward Furlong
In the late nineties, Furlong had serious problems with alcohol, drugs and the law, which, of course, could not but affect his career. In 2000, trying to defeat his addiction, he took a special rehabilitation course.
In 2013, the actor used physical violence against one of his girlfriends, for which the court sentenced him to six months in prison. However, he served only 61 days behind bars. He was sentenced in exchange for consent to undergo another drug treatment treatment program.
Today Furlong is predominantly starred in low-budget films. So, for example, in 2016 he took part in the filming of the film “Winter Rose”, and in 2017 he played one of the roles in the film “Reunion”.
