Pitching is an essential element of the film industry. This is a business tool that helps producers create an interesting alliance with promising creative units, and young directors and scriptwriters to find a source of funding. Recently, pitching has appeared in Russia.

Pitching (from English to pitch - to promote, advertise) is a small presentation of a film project created to attract producers and investors. Roughly speaking, if you have nothing to make a film on and you need financing, pitching is what you need. The presentation should last from one to five minutes, no more. Two out of ten young directors participating in the pitch succeed in successfully implementing the project.
Pitching is of two types:
• Scenic
• Producer.
Scenario, as the name implies, implies the presentation of a screenwriter by a movie writer. Abroad, it is extremely widespread: screenwriters line up for producers, trying to sell their work.
Producing pitching is a much more complex phenomenon. It is a search for financial resources or advertising support for the implementation of a film project. It is worth noting that this is not about an abstract idea, but about a finished project.
In the West, pitching is carried out as part of major film festivals: Cannes, Berlin, Rotterdam, etc. Almost no one solid festival is complete without it. In Russia, producer pitching was first held at Kinotavr in 2007, so this phenomenon is relatively new to the domestic film industry. The start was successful: already at the next Kinotavr the winning films were presented. It must be emphasized that in Russian cinema the institute of production is extremely poorly developed. Therefore, such a phenomenon as pitching is extremely useful, because it is an integral part of the film business all over the world.
One of the most important problems of pitching in Russia is that it attracts mostly non-professionals. This in itself is not bad, but it is regrettable that students of cinematographic universities, novice directors and scriptwriters ignore it.
Other weaknesses are slurred movie legislation and an extremely aggressive environment. Pitching involves open space and an objective assessment of the project from the outside.
