The American slang word grunge literally means something or someone very untidy, dirty, disgusting. In rock music, and later in the fashion industry, grunge has become one of the most recognizable styles.

At the end of the eighties of the twentieth century, a new definition was needed, under which not quite typical rock music could fall. Several bands at once, including Stooges, Green River, and even U2, began experimenting with guitar parts, making them more furious in performance and darker in sound. Vocalists added tear to their voices, songwriters turned lyrics into clots of depression. So grunge appeared - something unflattering, but at the same time not without lyricism. A new trend was born in the world of rock music, and he was destined for a short, but vibrant life.
Nirvana, the cult American band Kurt Cobain, who later committed suicide (quite in grunge style) brought real popularity to the grunge. The song Smells Like Teen Spirit, released in 1991 as part of the Nevermind album, became an apologist for an alternative rock called grunge, and Kurt Cobain was called by music critics "the voice of a generation."
The world fan grunge hysteria did not end with the death of Cobain and the gradual descent of those few groups that played in this musical style. In the nineties, grunge was reborn into a real youth subculture, the basis of which became a special style of clothing. His ideology was a teenage love of rebellion: the main principle of grunge was proclaimed a combination of incongruous.
The first fashion trend to be picked up and developed by the style designer was heavy army boots that looked particularly impressive on fragile girls.
Modern fans of grunge, they are also opponents of glamor, draw inspiration from second-hand stores. On the streets of these guys can be identified by deliberately careless appearance. Long hair without hairstyle and styling, worn clothes, massive shoes, accessories of anarchist or pacifist themes. Adherents of this subculture believe that appearance in a person is not the main thing, and demonstrate this postulate in all available ways.
