For several consecutive years, Russia annually celebrates its holiday - Day of Russia. On this day, flags of the Russian state are developing at all institutions and squares. And few people wonder what the colors of the Russian state flag mean, watching how they proudly flutter over the country.
Colors of the flag of Russia: a bit of history
The colors red, blue, white were chosen during the reign of Tsar Alexei Tishayshem in the middle of the 17th century. It was he who, according to some accounts, launched the ship, pointing to the colors of the flag that accompanied him: put a white, red and blue strip on the banners. Historians believe that Peter the Great subsequently strengthened the flag as an obvious symbol of the Russian fleet, having an emblem in the form of an eagle with a crown and a red mark in the middle with the order of St. George.
But the opinions of historians are a little divided, because there is a version of the appearance of the horizontal presence of three colors on the canvas due to the influence of Dutch heraldry on Peter the Great. It was these colors of the state flag that were present during the Russian campaign against Azov. The flag fluttered on all ships and was a symbol of the Russian fleet. As soon as the annexed lands were part of Russia, not only a cross was erected on their territory, but also a flag bearing the symbols of Russia.
But in 1858, the Russian flag lost popularity on the initiative of the official branch of the Senate. It was then that it was proposed not to change the colors of the Russian flag, but to add additional characters.
At the beginning of the 19th century, Austria and Prussia had almost the same colors on their flags, and Russia, looking earlier at German traditions, nevertheless resolutely adopted this color scheme, thanks to the folk memory of the “Peter's flag”, as it was called in common people. It has become a symbol of all mass events in Russia, be it Shrovetide, folk fairs or exhibitions.
How did the colors of the flag of Russia
Exactly what the colors of the Russian flag mean and positions Russia as an omnipotent power. White color symbolized the independence and freedom of Russia, the frankness of the people and their nobility. The blue color symbolized the patronage of the Virgin, which keeps calm the Russian state, loyalty and devotion to its land, open honesty and chastity. Sovereign empire symbolized red. It was then that the unity of the three colors was a symbol of "Faith, Tsar, Fatherland" and was revered by the Russian people. According to historians, these three colors could symbolize another worship of the people: faith, hope, love.
The October Revolution made adjustments to Russian symbols and completely removed the blue and white flag, thereby showing that Russia has only one color of the Russian flag - red. This is the blood of soldiers for the adoption of the communist system, blood for loyalty and selflessness.
For a long time, the color scheme changed, new symbols appeared, but the decision of the government commission in 1990 made the final decision: the colors of the state flag will have exactly this order and such an arrangement, because this is the history of Russia, its past and present.
It was in 1991 that the government returned the Russian heritage and historically renewed the symbol of the entire Russian people - the flag. On November 1, 1991, a law was signed on amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation, and the ratio of the width of the canvas to the length (1: 2) was established. Later, in 1993, the ratio was changed as 2: 3, but the colors of the Russian flag remained unchanged.
There is an opinion that the colors indicate precisely the union of fraternal peoples: Belarus (the white sign means the annexation of White Russia), Ukraine (this is the blue sign of Little Russia), Russia (the sign of the great power is red).
