The main goal of Greenpeace is to protect the environment. She also conducts environmental education of the population of any country in the world, promotes an ecological lifestyle. Its field of activity includes global climate change, deforestation, animal welfare, whaling, the spread of radiation hazard on the planet, and much more.
Greenpeace, an international and independent environmental organization, or Green World, was born in the early seventies of the last century. The reason for its occurrence was nuclear underground tests in Alaska in the United States. Then a group of enthusiasts began a protest movement against these actions of the Americans, as nuclear tests led to earthquakes and tsunamis. To unite the protesting people, it was decided to create this organization.
Greenpeace headquarters is located in the city of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. Now in 47 countries there are 30 of its regional branches. Today, the number of employees does not exceed one and a half thousand people, at the same time, the number of its members is more than three million people. The organization has an average donation of 265 million euros per year.
What GreenPeace is fighting for
The organization has a lot of projects. Members of the organization oppose nuclear testing. And not only in the USA, but also in other countries of the world. “Green” advocates against oil production and the use of fuel based on it. They suggest using environmental methods of energy production, for example, using wind, sun, water.
Greenpeace has a project "Save the Arctic." The Greens want to create a reserve around the North Pole, and it will be international. They will not produce oil, industrial fishing will not be conducted, and there will be no wars in this region. Since 1996, the Greens have been campaigning against the use of genetically modified foods.
GreenPeace leaders oppose wars on Earth and advocate for nuclear disarmament. Still the "green" are opposed to the mass fishing of fish, against the commercial hunting of whales. Greenpeace advocates for the safety of nuclear power plants, and organization volunteers have more than once rescued people from areas infected with radiation. Greenpeace also opposes pollution of the air, against deforestation. The Greens want all the garbage on the planet to be recycled and used for other needs.
