Description of the series
The twins Brandon and Brenda, played brilliantly by Jason Priestley and Shannon Doherty, are moving from quiet provincial Minneapolis to vibrant and bustling Los Angeles. There they quickly make new friends, fall in love and face various teenage problems. The series raises the topic of rape, alcoholism, domestic violence, anti-Semitism, abuse of gays, drug addiction, same-sex families, bulimia, teenage suicide, abortion, early pregnancy and many other important social problems.
Initially, Beverly Hills 90210 was conceived by its author Darren Star as a six-part series.
In 1990, Star showed the script for his project to Aaron Spelling, who praised him and agreed to work with Darren. In the autumn of the same year, a pilot episode of the youth series "Beverly Hills 90210" appeared on American screens, which literally tossed the ratings of the channel to heaven. As a result, the conceived six episodes turned into the first season, and subsequently the series lasted ten seasons and became a cult for young people in many countries of the world.
