Athlete Biography
The future biathlete was born July 31, 1987 in the city of Khanty-Mansiysk. From childhood, Svetlana was a very agile girl. Therefore, her parents sent her to sports. At first it was martial arts, and then biathlon. Moreover, Sleptsova began to get involved in biathlon in the third grade of high school. It was then that she enrolled in the section of this winter sport.
Svetlana always gave herself completely in training and earned the respect of the coaches. Therefore, when the girl wanted to quit classes, experts persuaded Sleptsova to stay. As soon as the first successes in competitions appeared, Svetlana began to study very poorly at school. But the parents did not scold the girl, but, on the contrary, supported everything. Perhaps, understanding from close people helped to reach the athlete of certain heights in biathlon.
Since 2000, Sleptsova has been participating in various competitions throughout Russia. After several prizes, she was awarded the title of candidate for master of sports. And already in 2004 she became a master of sports in biathlon. This success is followed by an invitation to the Russian national team.
The following year, at the Junior World Championships, the girl wins a gold medal in the individual race, and also regularly rises to the podium. Already in 2007, Svetlana twice won the race at the same world championship among juniors. This attracts the attention of the coaching staff of the adult team of Russia. At the end of the season, Sleptsova is taken into her composition.
The young biathlete immediately begins to prove that she was not chosen in vain. Already in her first season at the highest level, Svetlana wins at one of the stages of the World Cup in Ruhpolding. The following year, the girl becomes the world champion in the relay and receives the title of Honored Master of Sports.
In 2010, Sleptsova, along with other Russian biathletes, won a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Vancouver. This becomes the most important success in the career of an athlete. She is awarded the state award "Order of Friendship".
After success at the Olympics, Svetlana began to feel worse about training. Therefore, sports performance crawled sharply down. The consequence of this was the lowest place in the overall standings of the World Cup in her entire career. Also in mid-2012, Svetlana received a knee injury and an emergency operation was required. The girl was transferred to the second national team of Russia.
She has been participating in the IBU Biathlon Cup for several seasons. Sometimes Svetlana accepts futile attempts to return to the main team, but she does not manage to regain the trust of the coaches.
In 2016, Sleptsova returned to the base of the Russian team. She has high hopes for the new season, but the girl is not very successful. At the end of the year, Sleptsova announces the end of an international sports career.
