Then he replaced the musician and began to earn extra money at the club.
Soon, classes with Belozemtsev resumed. He recommended a talented student to enter a music college. Arkady followed the council in 1930. Sometimes he had to sacrifice his beloved studies to help his younger brother. Arkady was engaged in orchestrations, played in the evenings in the orchestra. He created a concert crew with his bandmates.
The tour began. By chance, the young musician was lucky enough to meet Rakhlin on the train. In 1940, he offered Ostrovsky a place in the Utesov State Orchestra. Acquaintance with the team took place in the capital. Everyone liked the new member. New tours began. Arkady was a pianist, accordionist and arranger.
By the beginning of the war, Arkady Ilyich decided to start a composer career. However, the Great Patriotic War prevented the implementation of plans. He created songs for poems passed on to him. Among them were the works of Sergei Mikhalkov. For the first time he performed the works “Native Side” and “I am Demobilized” by Leonid Utesov. After the war, the wife persuaded her husband to quit his job in the orchestra and engage in a solo career. But Arkady Ilyich was in no hurry to leave his comrades. He agreed to his wife's proposal only two years later. The main argument was the words of the composer Mark Fradkin. In 1947, Arkady repeatedly tried to return to the orchestra, where he was repeatedly called. However, this decision was not welcomed by the spouse.
In 1948 he was admitted to the Union of Composers. The career and creative growth of Ostrovsky began. Very soon Arkady Ilyich turned into a writer beloved by the whole country. At first, the beginning composer wrote his works to order. However, more and more often, in his works, light lyrics were visible. Finally, he became the ancestor of a new pop trend, the domestic cycle.
His love songs sounded, the combination of a guitar with a button accordion was especially successful. Fame came after meeting and working with Lev Oshanin, a poet. In 1948, their song "Komsomol members - restless hearts" won the first prize in the competition. In 1954, Claudia Shulzhenko performed Ostrovsky's work My Old Park on the radio. The song immediately became popular.

The composer wrote songs for the World Festivals of Youth and Students. In 1962, together with Lev Oshanin, the famous "May there always be sunshine" was created. At the International Song Festival in Sopot, she received the first prize.
The lyric cycle "And in Our Yard" was written in 1962-19065 in collaboration with Oshanin. 5 songs entered the cycle. The most famous singers performed the composer's works.
Ostrovsky’s talent in children's creativity was especially well revealed. And to this day the soundtrack created by him sounds “Sleeping tired toys”, which has become legendary.
