Alena Doletskaya is a Russian journalist and translator. Many know her as the first editor-in-chief of the Russian Vogue. At the helm she was 12 years old. Colleagues have long dubbed her the avant-garde of glossy journalism.
Biography: early years
Alena Stanislavovna Doletskaya was born on January 10, 1955. Her parents were doctors: her father was a pediatric surgeon, and her mother was an oncologist. Alena has an older brother who went in the footsteps of his parents and became a resuscitator. Alena chose a different path, although right after school she planned to become a student at a medical university. Parents themselves dissuaded her from this step.
Alena decided to try herself on stage. She easily entered the Moscow Art Theater School. However, this did not suit parents. For this reason, Alena soon dropped out of school. The famous actor Yuri Nikulin, who was her uncle, recommended entering a humanitarian university. Then few people would have thought that this advice would predetermine her entire future fate.
Doletskaya became a student of the philological faculty of Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. She graduated with honors, becoming a comparative philologist. Alena decided to continue her studies in graduate school. Subsequently, she began to teach English at Alma Mater. In parallel, she made translations of books by authors such as Ray Bradbury, William Faulkner.
Career
In the early nineties, Alena left teaching, becoming a PR agent in the company De Beers, which was engaged in the production of diamonds. She got this position thanks to her spouse, who was a diplomat. In 1994, Doletskaya was fired with a scandal. She asked the company for a loan for the purchase of housing, while hiding her property, which she already had then.
Soon Doletskaya got a job in the Russian representation of the British Council. There she organized exhibitions, including in the Tretyakov Gallery and the Kremlin. Subsequently, Alena worked on the BBC radio and the German channel RTL.
In 1998, Doletskaya led the Russian version of Vogue magazine. She built his concept from scratch, adapted to the needs of Russian women. Soon the publication became the most respected fashion magazine in the country. And in many ways this is the merit of Doletskaya. She gave this magazine 12 years. In 2010, Alena left him of her own free will.
A year later, she became chief editor of the Russian version of Interview Magazine. Soon she began to lead his release in Germany.
