Childhood and youth
People's Artist of the Soviet Union Alexei Denisovich Dikiy was born on February 24, 1889 in a petty bourgeois family. Parents lived in the famous city of Yekaterinoslav, which is now renamed the Dnieper. The actor’s father was named Dikov. As was customary in the theatrical environment, Alex took on a pseudonym under which he lived his entire creative life. The actor’s mother worked as a seamstress. Alexey Dikiy received primary education in a real school. After graduation, he was drafted into the army. In 1909, having served his military duty, the aspiring actor moved to Moscow and entered drama courses at the Moscow Art Theater. Among the mentors who taught the basics of acting were Konstantin Stanislavsky and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko. After thorough preparation, Alexei was recruited into the troupe of the art theater. He made his debut in the performances "At the bottom" and "Provincials."
During World War I, Wild spent three years on the Caucasian front. After a forced break, the actor with renewed vigor continued his career. Alexey Denisovich not only played in performances, but also was actively involved in directorial work.
