Relation to religion is such a complex issue that it is simply impossible to exhaust it with two points of view: “I believe” and “I don't believe”. There are many positions and the difference between them can be so insignificant that you cannot figure out without a dictionary. In particular, quite often people find it unclear what the difference is between an “atheist” and an “agnostic, ” if neither one or the other refers to any religion.
Atheism is the certainty of the absence of God or any other higher mind. Often atheists include people who deny the possibility of the existence of paranormal phenomena. In the general case, an atheist does not believe in anything that cannot be proved by experiment or verified by observation.
An agnostic is less critical. He does not say with certainty that there is no God, he only reports that it is impossible to find out the exact answer in this regard. In other words, a person considers senseless any dispute about concepts that cannot be proved or disproved. Such a position implies that its holder, in the presence of a sufficient number of indisputable arguments, can take both sides.
It is important to note that doubts about the religious affiliation of the true God are not agnosticism at all. A person who is unsure of the legitimacy of the institution of the church itself or the plausibility of a particular religion refers to anti-clericalism.
The simplest and least correct answer to the question posed in the heading would be: "The atheist is sure, but the agnostic doubts." It is true in this statement that atheism critically rejects the existence of God, accepting the big bang theory much more willingly. However, agnosticism is not necessarily an integral worldview.
Of course, he can speak in this sense: the belief that the world is objectively unknowable to man. But this does not contradict atheism or any other faith. The fact of recognition of unprovenness is important. For example, the position of an agnostic theist would be: "I know that it is impossible to prove the existence of God, but I want to believe in him." The scientific is no worse: "At the current stage of science, it is impossible to prove the absence of God, but I am sure that it is so."
