The Olympic Games have been held for several millennia. The names of champions are forever recorded in the annals of history. Yuri Sedykh is our contemporary. Multiple Olympic winner in hammer throw.
Starting conditions
Long-term practice shows that almost all boys and girls begin to engage in sports. After a short period, a significant majority leaves these classes. Only those with certain abilities will continue to train. Yuri Georgievich Sedykh achieved outstanding results. It is enough to say that the world record that he set back in 1986 is still not broken. Then he threw a hammer at a distance of 86 meters 74 centimeters. It is interesting to note that our athletes did not demand and did not receive fabulous fees.
Insightful experts do not tire of reminding that in sports, as in science or art, geniuses are not born every day. The future world champion was born on June 11, 1955 in an ordinary Soviet family. Parents at that time lived in the famous city of Novocherkassk, Rostov Region. My father worked at an agricultural machinery factory. Mother worked as a kindergarten teacher. In those days, the state took care of the younger generation. Children from an early age were attracted to physical education and sports.
Not far from the house there was a stadium with a equipped athletics arena. Yuri really liked the song that "early in the morning, I’m not too lazy to do gymnastics." And "I pour water from the tap every day." Like all the boys on the street, he spent all his free time at the stadium. Played soccer. He ran for short and long distances. And even jumped high. When the boy was twelve years old, he was attracted by a trainer who trained hammer throwers. At the first meeting, the teenager was surprised to learn that a metal blank, with an attached cable, is called a hammer.
The educator of future champions was an experienced person and thought creatively. At first glance, he determined that Yura Sedykh has the necessary inclinations for this particular sport. And his predictions were fully justified. Systematic training began. Field trips to competitions and competitions of different levels. After graduating from school, Yuri decided to get a specialized education at the Kiev Institute of Physical Education. On the basis of this particular institution, an all-Union school of hammer throwers developed. From the first days of study, as they say, he turned out to be in his native environment.
Achievements and rewards
To achieve high results in any field of activity, it is necessary to act on a specific algorithm and clearly follow the time-tested instructions. This rule is fully applicable to a sports career. Yuri Sedykh showed rare determination and performance. For all the time of speaking at various competitions, he never violated the sports regime. When the country's national track and field team was preparing for a trip to the Montreal Olympics, the entire coaching council unanimously approved its candidacy.
At the start of the competition, journalists and bookmakers did not pay attention to the young and unknown hammer thrower from the USSR. But when Yuri was awarded the gold medal, a flurry of enthusiasm and applause was like an "Atlantic typhoon." After two seasons, in 1978, Sedykh won the European Championship. Over the next ten years, the Soviet athlete did not know the defeat. At the Olympics-80, he "took" gold. In 1984, the Soviet team did not go to the Los Angeles Olympics. Annoyingly, but tolerant. At the Olympics-88 in Seoul, Yuri took second place.
By the beginning of the 90s, Sedykh had assembled an impressive collection of medals won in competitions of various ranks. It is interesting to note that only in 1991 he became the world champion. By this time, the country was already undergoing destructive processes, and many famous athletes were left to their own devices. Yuri Sedykh also got into a difficult situation. Livelihoods were sorely lacking. The decision came unexpectedly and on time. Multiple champion was invited to work in France. Yuri agreed to play for the athletics club on a commercial basis.
