From the biography of Anatoly Vsevolodovich Verbitsky
The future actor was born in Moscow on February 3, 1926. His father, Vsevolod Aleksandrovich, was an actor, he served in the Moscow Art Theater. Mother's uncle also played on stage and in films. Anatoly's grandmother was the writer A. Verbitskaya. In such a creative family a boy was brought up.
Verbitsky began his career in the years of the war, when he was a pupil of the ninth grade. The Moscow Art Theater in those years was evacuated to Saratov. Anatoly worked in the carpentry workshops of the theater as a simple worker. Then they began to attract him to participate in mass scenes in separate productions.
In 1947, Verbitsky graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School. As a student, he took part in the productions of Tsar Fedor Ioannovich, Anna Karenina, and Kremlin Chimes. Having received his education, he served at the Moscow Art Theater until the end of his life.
Theater work
Anatoly Vsevolodovich possessed excellent external data and a beautiful voice. However, in the theater, he almost did not receive significant roles that would contribute to the professional growth of the actor. Among the early works of Verbitsky in the theater are the roles of Neil in "Petty Bourgeois", Timur in "Aurora's Volley", Walter Gay in the play "Dombey and Son", Popovsky in the production of "Lomonosov".
Anatoly began to receive roles worthy of his talent only in the 50s. He successfully played Dantes in The Last Days, Panshin in the play The Noble Nest, and Count Orsino in Twelfth Night.
Career in cinema
The long-awaited success did not immediately come to Verbitsky and to the cinema. His debut work was the role of Travkin in the military drama "Star" (1949). However, the next role was offered to him only in 1955: Anatoly had to get used to the image of Pechorin in “Princess Mary”. And he succeeded: the role of the hero from the work of Lermontov brought the actor all-Union fame. It can be considered Verbitsky's main success in life. After the release of the picture, Anatoly was invited to shoot in Hollywood. However, the authorities did not consent to this.
