In the modern world, men and women wear trousers, but this was not always the case. There was a time when trousers were exclusively men's clothing. But the ancient Egyptians put on dresses and skirts. Alexander the Great conquered the world by wearing a skirt. The Greeks preferred togas, and the Chinese preferred dresses. So, men in skirts are far from news in terms of history.
History tour
How long did men wear skirts? Remember Christopher Columbus. He wore a green tunic, tights and leather shoes, as well as a wide cloak and a leather cap. This picture does not represent a model of masculinity in the human mind.
Thomas Jefferson also did not wear pants. He preferred knickers. In the 1760s, many men wore tight knickers and stockings. Sailors began to wear very loose trousers in the 1580s, but this clothing was intended only for lower-class men, and gentlemen wore skirts until the 1760s. The French Revolution of 1789 protested that trousers only belong to the upper class. At the same time, the first peasants in trousers appeared.
So, men's trousers are a fairly new fashion. Men wore skirts for at least ten thousand years. And modern mankind has been wearing trousers for only 200 years. And some of the world's male population continues to wear dresses.
