Biography: early years
Stepan Mailovich Maryanyan was born on September 21, 1991 in the village of Dinskaya, near Krasnodar. He was brought to sport by his father. When Stepan was 9 years old, he began to attend the Greco-Roman wrestling section in the village. At first, he did not like this sport due to heavy loads. Stepan strongly opposed classes, ran away from training ahead of time.
However, his father did not allow him to quit sports. In Armenian families, the word parent is the law, so Stepan continued training. Later in an interview, he notes that he is grateful to his father for not letting him quit the sport. By the age of 11, Stepan became involved in the training process and could no longer live without the Greco-Roman struggle.
In his teens, Maryanyan actively participated in various competitions of both urban and regional significance. In his piggy bank for that period, several dozen medals of various denominations.
Career
The Russian Cup in 2012 was the first successful competition among adults for Stepan. Then he took second place, which was very pleased. In the same year, Marianyan took the “silver” in the Grand Prix, dedicated to the memory of the famous wrestler Ivan Poddubny. In the same season, at the Russian championship in Greco-Roman wrestling, Stepan became the third.
The following year was very successful for Maryanyan. He won the “gold” at two significant tournaments: the Ivan Poddubny Grand Prix and the World Cup. At the Russian championship and European Cup, Stepan was third.
Throughout 2014, Maryanyan did not compete due to injury. The following season, he became the champion of the European Olympic Games, which were held in Baku. In an interview, the athlete admitted that that victory was the most memorable for him.
In 2017, Stepan was already the “solid” first number in the weight up to 60 kg in the Russian national team in Greco-Roman wrestling. He began the season with third place at the Ivan Poddubny Grand Prix. In the spring, he won the World Cup, and in the summer he became the country's champion for the first time and guaranteed himself a place in the national team for the upcoming championship of the planet.

Marjanian went to the mundial, which took place in Paris, to win, but he lost one battle and eventually became the third. Stepan dedicated his “bronze” to Russia. Three months later, he won the European Cup of Nations.
In the summer of 2019, Marianyan repeated the success in Baku four years ago, again becoming the winner of the European Games. Now all the athlete’s thoughts are busy preparing for the Tokyo Olympics.
