Hundreds and even thousands of people die every year in armed conflicts around the world. But these losses cannot be compared with those victims that the warring states suffered during the Second World War. Until now, historians have not come to a consensus on how many people died in this global confrontation, but in any case we are talking about tens of millions of lives.
How many people lost howling countries
The losses suffered during the Second World War by experts in the field of history are estimated differently. In this case, different methods for obtaining the initial data and methods of calculation are used. Today in Russia, the data recognized by the research team working within the framework of the project conducted by the specialists of the Military Memorial Center are recognized as official.
As of 2001, when the research data were once again refined, it is believed that during the years of the war against Nazi fascism the Soviet Union lost 6.9 million troops. Almost four and a half million Soviet soldiers and officers were captured or missing. Most impressive are the country's total human losses: taking into account the dead civilians, they amounted to 26 million 600 thousand people.
The losses of fascist Germany were significantly lower and amounted to a little more than 4 million troops. The total losses of the German side as a result of hostilities are estimated at 6.6 million people; this includes the civilian population. Allied German European countries lost less than a million soldiers killed. The vast majority of those killed on both sides of the military confrontation were men.
