Biography
Sergey Savitsky was born in the Belarusian city of Vitebsk in 1966. After graduation, he entered the Belarusian Polytechnic Institute in Minsk, where he was educated as an engineer in 1991.
Very soon events occurred that destroyed the Soviet Union. A young promising specialist already understood that the restructuring that had come to the post-Soviet space would force many to reconsider their views on life, on business, on work.
New thinking helped Savitsky make the right decision: a year after graduation, he became the head of the sales department of the Atlant-M holding, which, incidentally, he founded together with his comrades. They understood that they were ambitious, that there was a risk, that they could burn out, but they could not do otherwise.
The holding developed quite quickly precisely because they took risks and won. Two years later, the young team began to look for ways to interact with foreign car manufacturers. For a long time they thought about whom to put, and chose Volkswagen. It was the right choice, the right decision, from which many have won.
In Belarus at that time, the cars of this brand were very popular, and things were progressing quickly with the young team. In 1994, the first Volkswagen sales center was opened, and Savitsky became its head.
It would seem much more ambitious than selling cars of this brand in their country? But no, Savitsky did not think to stop, and now auto centers from the parent company appeared in Russia and Ukraine
New cars appeared in the price list, a new strategy was developed for each auto center, however Volkswagen is still selling best - it's like a first love.
Currently, Savitsky is the general director and member of the Board of Directors of the Atlant-M international automobile holding, and often takes pride of place in various ratings of professional executives.
Secret of success
When journalists ask Savitsky about the secret of success, he calls quite a few components, but in each phrase the idea that you need to select a good team sounds like a refrain. In other words, for Sergei Nikolaevich, the main people who work with him have always been the main ones. He is looking for the same ambitious and motivated as himself. Such as they were with friends when they created their holding and promoted it.
Savitsky believes that he who wins to gather like-minded people around him, organize and direct them, rather than drive and force them, wins in the competition.
And also - the attitude to customers and partners. All business participants must be profitable, and everyone must be satisfied.
Atlant-M also developed its own strategy: not to build dozens of small auto centers in different cities, but to focus on the largest cities and build large auto centers in them. As time has shown, this strategy has borne fruit. The leaders of the holding on this occasion even came up with their motto: "We will sow pumpkins, not peas." Pumpkins - this is a large holding company with a large number of employees and the ability to serve a large number of customers.
Business goals
Savitsky does not like to voice his goals, he simply says that he plans for about a decade in advance, and so far everything has been realized.
He sees his tasks as a leader in building long-term strategies and identifying key points for the formation of the holding’s competitiveness.
And he notes as a prerequisite for the leader the desire to want, to be able to do. And this is a condition for the whole team.
One of his main qualities, Savitsky calls perfectionism - he always wants things to be done at the highest level.
That is why Atlant-M is now beginning to focus on luxury brands and cooperation with brands producing premium cars.
At the beginning of the new century, on the twentieth anniversary of Atlant-M, Sergey Savitsky and Ilya Prokhorov came up with a book called the “Book of Stories for Those Over 20”. It contains stories of employees about work in the holding. They are distinguished by their sincerity and openness - these are honest stories of successes and failures that occurred during the formation of the team. There are even stories of competitors that it is generally not accepted to publish in such publications.
Savitsky himself is very emotional about his business and cars: he believes that a car should be chosen not with the mind, but with the heart. And he compares the choice of a car with marriage: they say, living with an unloved woman is the same as driving a car that you do not like or do not fit.
Volkswagen remains its favorite brand - it has kept this constancy since 1993. However, as a true researcher, he tries to drive other cars, and he likes many of them. For example, Touareg or Range Rover.
