In Soviet times, the student knew the quote from one of the founders of Marxism, F. Engels: "The family is the unit of society." Although the Soviet Union collapsed a long time ago, and Marxism-Leninism ceased to be a state ideology, this phrase has not lost its relevance.

1
Despite the fact that the institution of the family in Russia and beyond is currently undergoing a serious crisis for various reasons, the family continues to play a very important role in the life of any society, in fact being its mainstay.
2
The family performs several important functions, without which society is simply not capable of a normal existence. First of all, reproductive. Although the times when the birth of an illegitimate child was considered scandalous and cast a stain on the mother and her parents are in the past, most children are still born from people bound by marital ties. That is, thanks to families, there is a reproduction of the population, society continues to exist.
3
Most sociologists, psychologists, doctors and other specialists argue that family education, the influence of the father and mother, more fully, more often contributes to the formation of a healthy and harmoniously developed child than when the children are brought up in public or private institutions. Of course, there are exceptions, but they do not change the overall picture.
4
It is in the family that the child receives the necessary communication and behavior skills, forms a system of values, learns from adults, repeating the words of the famous poet, "what is good and what is bad". In the family circle, from father and mother, as well as other adult relatives, he learns about his country, its history, the heroic and tragic pages of the past. This contributes to the formation of patriotism among the growing citizen of Russia.
5
Family life with its common cares, troubles, holidays, teaches all its members - both adults and children - to understanding, respect, readiness to reasonably limit their own desires, needs for the common good. And this is very important. After all, exactly the same demands are made by society on every citizen. If the whole society (or at least its majority) consisted of egoists, preoccupied only with the fulfillment of their own desires and indifferent to the needs and problems of other people, his fate would be unenviable.
6
In a family where proper upbringing is carried out, a child from an early age is introduced to work, feasible help at home, respect for elders, and compassion. And this again benefits the whole society as a whole. Thus, it is not difficult to conclude: the stronger each individual family, the stronger the society.
