Early work
Petr Ivanovich Podgorodetskiy is a Muscovite, born in 1957. In his family, music occupied a dominant role. My grandmother was a professional pianist; my mother sang all her life at the Moskontsert. Talking about his biography, Peter never said the name of his father, and in one of the interviews he shared that the patronymic of Ivanovich was given to him by his grandmother and mother to hide his Jewish origin.
Petya continued the family tradition: he sang in the chapel of the boys of the Gnesins Institute, graduated from music school. Then followed a study at the music school at the Moscow Conservatory. By 1976, the graduate had victorious participation in the competition and international tours as part of the choir.
The next two years, Peter spent in the Interior Ministry. The young man served in the Song and Dance Orchestra. He not only played, but also tried to compose music. Passion for lyrical compositions led to the creation of the song "Turn", which later became a hit for all time. An unpleasant story happened during this period, which later led Podgorodetskoy to the operating table. A co-worker threw a loaf of bread and got into Peter's eye. There was a detachment of the retina, so he temporarily lost his sight.
After demobilization, Podgorodetskiy got a job as a concertmaster at the Yudenich Theater. At the same time he played in restaurants - earned a living. His fee at that time was quite high - five hundred rubles a month.

"Time Machine"
Podgorodetsky’s professional career began in 1979 in the group of Alexander Sitkovetsky “Leap Summer”. Paired with Chris Kelmi, Peter played keyboards. But their cooperation did not last long, for about two weeks, as a proposal was received from Alexander Kutikov to become a keyboard player for Time Machine. In those days, the group was going through hard times, so the arrival of a new artist was very welcome. The choice fell on Podgorodetskoy not by chance; he impressed Makarevich with his capacity for work and ability to play any kind of music. In addition, of all the members of the group, he alone had a special education and completed military service. The new program brought the “Time Machine” unprecedented success. In addition to the listeners' favorite song "Turn", Peter wrote several more compositions with a humorous bias, which he himself performed. The team was revived largely due to the efforts of the musician. The new "Time Machine" competed in popularity with Vysotsky, Pugacheva, Leontiev.
The All-Union glory of the group brought the film "Soul". The main role in the film, which was released in 1981, was played by Sofia Rotaru. Her character is a young, talented singer who is experiencing ups and downs in her creative career. Once in a difficult moment, she met a stranger on the Baltic coast who told her important words that "the singer’s songs will live while her soul is alive." I must say that participation in the film led to disagreement due to finances among the members of the group, and in May 1982 Podgorodetskiy left the Time Machine.
Further career
For the next few years, he played on the SV team. The team was based on the fragments of the old composition of "Sunday" and in many respects adopted its character of performance. This was followed by work in the Granov group, the ensembles of Kobzon and Miguli. The experiment with the participation of Podgorodetskoy in the folk group "Corn" turned out to be interesting.
In 1990, the musician was again invited to the "Time Machine". By that time, the collective fees had increased several times, this was due to the collapse of the Union and the political situation in the country. The air of freedom and easy money led to the fact that Petya began to use drugs and spend huge amounts in casinos. He was often late for concerts, and sometimes missed out on tour altogether. Nine years after returning to the famous team, its director announced to Podgorodetskiy that the group “no longer needs his services”. A new performer Andrey Derzhavin came to replace the keyboard player. The disagreement, as Makarevich said, "according to musical tastes and human qualities" provoked the indignation of the former participant, he called his colleagues "amateur and unprofessional musicians." He expressed his attitude to the incident in his book “The Machine with the Jews, ” which was released in 2007.
In the 2000s, Podgorodetskiy worked as a DJ at the Silver Rain radio station and hosted a number of television projects. But he soon realized that for him, live communication with the audience was still important. For the past decade and a half, the musician has performed in clubs, has performed favorite hits and new songs. Today he goes on stage with the musicians of the Bambey group.
